Sherri Lynn Gassaway

Social Services Director at Family Compass
Master's in Elementary Education

As a former teacher, mother of five, and grandmother of twelve, Sherri is all about family. When her children were very small, she taught preschool in her home. Later, she taught in the Battle Ground School District HomeLink program for 17 years. While trying retirement on for size, her journey has led her yet again to the importance of family support—in Family Compass.

Grateful for the opportunities she had in her education, Sherri feels education is the key to helping people succeed. Growing up, she learned how important a support system is to providing safety, encouragement, and help in order to flourish and thrive. She believes the word family can also extend to the village that is willing to offer help and support. She became part of a village when she started working with SHERYN’S Place, a safehouse for women and children that closed its doors after its founder, Sharon Nettles-Jones, passed in June 2020.

Now Sherri is honored to be a part of a new family in Family Compass, where she can continue the legacy Sharon started and provide hope and support that can make all the difference in the lives of others.
